Gyudon (Beef Bowl)

Ingredients
  

  • 250 g of thinly sliced beef I bought a tray beef sukiyaki/shabu shabu from Cold Storage
  • 1/2 yellow onion thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup cauliflower
  • 1/2 cup broccoli
  • 1 carrot sliced
  • 2 tbsp chopped spring onions for garnishing
  • Salt to taste

Sauce

  • 1 tsp ginger grated
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sake
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp mirin
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions
 

  • In a saucepan of boiling water par-boil the beef for 5-10 seconds. (DO NOT cook it through!).
  • This helps remove odour, scum, and excess fats.
  • Drain and set aside.
  • Get your sauce ready.
  • Add all ingredients for the sauce in a bowl.
  • Heat pan on medium-high heat with sesame oil.
  • Stir fry onions until slightly soft.
  • Pour in sauce mixture.
  • Bring to boil.
  • Add beef and coat well.
  • Cover and let it simmer on low heat for 5 mins.
  • Then uncover and let sauce reduce a little.
  • Season to taste.
  • In another pot, blanch veg in salted water.
  • Serve over white rice and garnish with chopped spring onions.
